How I Plan to Continue Living my 2020 Theme of Slow Despite Chaos

Today was an unusual day. Around 2 pm today a company wide email was sent out outlining that we would be working from home until at least the end of March. It was bitter sweet. On one hand I love working in yoga pants and wearing sports bras over a dress and a real bra. Yet on the other hand today signaled that our lives here in America just got turned upside down. I don’t need to rehash the events for you. You know what is going on. Rather I want to share with you my plan to live a simple, slow, and meaningful life.

First, I plan to continue with my regular morning routine. Each morning I will wake up at the same time and start my day with my mug of warm water with a splash of apple cider vinegar and some honey. My yoga practice will expand from 20 minutes to 60 minutes each morning. My furbaby and I will still eat breakfast before I start working. And I will shower each morning.

Second, my nighttime routine will continue. About an hour before I go to bed, I will pour myself a small glass of tart cherry juice and have my night time supplements. I will either sit in peace and read or turn on the TV to something lighthearted (likely HGTV Flea Market Flip).

Unless something needs to change for work, I will be maintaining my same work hours. In order for me to make sure I step away from the computer a little bit throughout the day, I am going to implement mini-workouts. For my mini-workouts, I am going to focus on high rep body weight exercises. My goal will be to complete 50 squats, 50 push-ups, 50 crunches, and 50 lunges each day during my mini work breaks. After work each day, I will alternate between going for a short run or taking our furbaby for a walk. I plan on running 3-4 times a week with shorter distances.

Household chores will change too. I plan on doing laundry about three times a week to keep the dirty clothes at bay. I will be taking about 10 minutes each day to wipe down high touch spots and restocking low items as well as opening the windows for at least one hour a day. I am going to adopt a more European mindset with grocery shopping by picking up less items more often. Meals will take on a life of their own. I am going to look to source ingredients for recipes that take time to cook such as a 5 hour pork shoulder for pulled pork. There is no sense on rushing. Not many places will be open after tonight anyways.

Weather pending, I am already scheduling a couple walks and hikes with a small group of friends and family. We should enjoy the early spring weather as best as possible.
